What is Sound Healing?
Sound healing, also known as sound yoga or sound massage, is a method of healing utlising vibrations and resonance of the natural sounds made by Tibetan singing bowls to increase natural resonance within our physical bodies, emotional bodies, energetic bodies and spiritual bodies. Not to be confused with traditional Nada, which is a huge philosophy and more directly focussed on mantra for purification of the body-mind, sound healing is a relatively new system using ancient tools, namely Tibetan singing bowls, to effect and promote healing and deep relaxation within. For individual healing, the bowls are placed directly on parts of the body along the meridan lines common to Chinese Traditional Medicine. It is a powerful healing modality which, throughout my experience, has led to profound levels of relaxation, often with the healee being lulled into a deep and beautiful sleep during the session. The changes to energy flows continue to be felt for many hours afterwards at all levels of the being.
I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to train in giving sound healing with Dr Tenzin, during a visit to Dharamshala in India. As an advanced practitioner, Tenzin is an accomplished teacher who expertly trained me in the Peter Hess methodolgy of sound healing and ensured I was immediately practicing on real humans. I’m very grateful for this guidace, which gave me a full skillset for giving sound massage.
Sound healing can have myriad benefits for all manner of ailments, most notably for stress-reduction, relaxation, realignment of energy flows and chakras, and the evoking of a deeper sense of meditation.
